Politics, I hate politics. My basic feeling is that of Edward the Long-shanks in Braveheart where he says "the problem with Scotland...is that it is full of Scots." The problem with politics or government, is that it is full of Politicians. Too bad we can not just breed them out like King Edward tried to do. Since the system is so set in its ways, someone who tries to run honestly and not as politically, would be laughed off.
Baseball is awesome. This year is particularly exciting so far for me as a Kansas City Royals fan. I was born in October 1986. So I suppose I was a bit of a bad luck charm for the franchise, since we haven't had a successful October since my birth. Anywho, the team is winning right now. It reminds me of 2003. We came out of nowhere that year behind the mantra of eccentric manager Tony Pena "We Believe." This year is supposed to be a wasted year as we wait for our young prospects to be ready for real action. For more in depth info on the wonder kids, go to Royals Review , Royals Authority or Pine Tar Press. However, the current players decided they didn't want to waste this year. Most of the 2011 Royals are either in a make or break year after years of disappointment (Alex Gordon, Kyle Davies), or trying to restart their career after injury or a bad reputation...or actually being bad (Jeff Francoeur, Jeff Francis, Melky Cabrera, Bruce Chen). Basically, the players are playing for a job with the Royals or another team, most likely another team. The fact that they are playing well right now is not only surprising, it creates a bit of a conflict.
They called up #1 prospect 1B Eric Hosmer last week , he is a tremendous talent and was destroying AAA pitching. He also started last year in A ball and is 21 years old. So far he seems to not be in over his head, and will surely help the team. I am very excited to see him progress, but I would have rather seen guys who we need to get something for of at some point if they are worth anything, such as Kila Ka'aihue, and Clint Robinson. Both of them are over 25 and play 1B, and hit balls hard. We will never know if Kila could hit big league hitting, because he only had 326 at bats over 3 years. Clint has never even had a chance to fail, that could change with an injury this year, but it is unlikely otherwise. I think the front office got too excited about the mirage of a good team.
NBA Playoffs. I am not a fan of the NBA. College basketball is far more entertaining in my opinion. The recent sweep of the Lakers by the team closest to my current residence, Dallas Mavericks did get me a bit excited. I used to think I was too heavily biased against the NBA because I had never gone to a game. I changed that this year and went to a Mavs vs Clippers game. I disliked the NBA even more afterward, it has a Harlem Globetrotters feel in person. The league decided at some point that the game itself was not enough to keep the fans attention, even though it is the most consistently excited sport to watch and the only one my wife, Krista really enjoys watching on TV with me. The squeak of the shoes and chants of the crowd being drowned out by the Black Eyed Peas and a mic'd up net make it worse....not better.
